There's a time Where you know That you've pushed your luck too hard And you gotta go, go and take a look at yourself There's a time Where you know, oh That you've pushed your luck too hard And you gotta go, go and take a look at yourself But to the consternation of nations You're the only one you got in your head We're all narcissistic reptiles with monkey brains I mean it just don't make sense Nothing really new this morning I woke up ornery And saw my lovely lady lying there God bless every hair on her head Nothing really works this morning I work up thorny And saw to the touch and blue Try not to take it out on all of you But to the consternation of nations You're the only one you got in your head We're all narcissistic reptiles with monkey brains I mean it just don't make sense But to the consternation of nations You're the only one you got in your head We're all narcissistic reptiles with monkey brains I mean it just don't make sense

All I want is someone who can watch over me And sit me down and take my hand when I stop my breathing All I want is someone who can watch over me And sit me down and take my hand when I stop my breathing It seems like the Holy Ghost alone Is the thing that I'm needing the most Just someone with All the time in the world A sacred someone who can write all my wrongs And while they're at it, they can write all my songs But I can't get down On my knees to pray All I want is someone who can watch over me And sit me down and take my hand when I stop my breathing All I want is someone who can watch over me And sit me down and take my hand when I stop my breathing A dream takes me by the scruff of the neck It trips me over and it beats at my chest Then the morning comes And rubs my face in it I've tried for ages, I have tried for so long To fight the feeling that you're better me gone So please take my hand Oh, and don't let me go All I want is someone who can watch over me And sit me down and take my hand when I stop my breathing All I want is someone who can watch over me And sit me down and take my hand when I stop my breathing

Well I keep thinking 'bout our times and how things were in days of yore I can't help but to wonder if we've crawled rather than launched Off of that Third-Reich-rocket-booster-seat that sent them into space I'm speaking 'bout with little doubt the United States of A- M-E-R-I-C-A Home of the CIA Manifest destiny Oh, bombs away M-E-R-I-C-A Gitmo or Turtle Bay Home on the range Well it seems to me we seem to think they ride the bleeding edge Of ways to be and see and think, meddling in people's heads But if we cast our eyes unto the way things are as once they were We start to see they're doomed to keep repeating all their wrongs M-E-R-I-C-A Home of the CIA Manifest destiny Oh, bombs away M-E-R-I-C-A Gitmo or Turtle Bay Home on the range Well I've been thinking 'bout our times and how it's all happened before I tend to play the cynic, though it brings me little joy to see that Culture is the realm in which the flavour of our thoughts Are bought and sold by influence outside of our control M-E-R-I-C-A Home of the CIA Manifest destiny Oh, bombs away M-E-R-I-C-A Gitmo or Turtle Bay Home on the range Home on the range Na-C-I-A Na-C-I-A

about

The material for this EP emerged during the writing of my band Turtle Bay’s sophomore album.

These songs took on a distinct Alt-Country character that warranted exploration outside of that band and its established sound.

Influenced as much by the work of Cosmic American songwriter Gram Parsons (The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers) as reclusive author Thomas Pynchon (Inherent Vice, The Crying of Lot 49), Juvenilia sets out to explore themes of yearning, imperial excess, love, the limitations of individualism, and spiritual uncertainty… generally with four chords or less!

I hope you enjoy it.
